Olson Kundig Architects + Wing Luke Museum

The ItaliaDesign team conducted a series of preparatory interviews in Seattle prior to departure for Italy and this interview captures the early work and learning. Olson Kundig Architects is a Seattle based architectural firm.  The firm’s design is often rooted in the idea that buildings can serve as a bridge between nature, culture and people, and that inspiring surroundings have positive effect on people’s lives.  The Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience is an Olson Kundig’s project that gives clear example on how this core idea is realized.  The design of this building grew out of the original 1910 multi-story building.  Drawing inspiration from the building’s and neighborhood’s (Seattle’s International District) rich history, Olson Kundig saved as much of the original building as possible to create a dialog between the past and the future.
