Matteo Thun
Matteo Thun, architect and designer, studied at the Academy of Salzburg with Oskar Kokoschka and at the University of Florence. Matteo Thun worked along side Natalini and Superstudio, which laid the grounds for the “architettura radicale” movement in Italy. In the early 80′s Thun became one of the founding members of the seminal design collective Memphis Group, lead by the legendary maestro Ettore Sottsass. Matteo Thun now has his own multi-disciplinary design and architecture firm located in Milan, approaching design that he calls ‘Zero-Design’. His methodical approach to design allows the expression of aesthetic curiosity while keeping a balance with economic and technological sustainability. The designs from Matteo Thun and his partner Antonio Rodriguez for the Italian coffee company “Illy” redefined certain products, resulting in ubiquitous objects that are commonly used every day by Italians and people around the world.
